Board hears fall activities schedule, homecoming plans and conference takeaways

Board members heard a series of informational updates about fall activities and district priorities, including start dates for sports and music, plans for the district’s 150th anniversary at homecoming and takeaways from the Associated School Boards of South Dakota conference.
Ryan Morris, who presented athletic and activities information, reviewed the opening dates for high‑school sports and other key events. He said girls and boys soccer, girls tennis, sideline and competitive cheer and competitive dance began in early August, and that football and cross country also started. Morris listed home game dates, the fall sports kickoff on Aug. 14 where food service will be provided to the public, and the high school homecoming on Sept. 26. “Everyone's invited to attend that. The food starts the serving of food is at 6 p.m., and that is free to the public,” Morris said.
Board members also summarized sessions from the statewide conference. Sarah, a newly elected board member, said sessions highlighted library staffing concerns after changes to master’s degree programs and the value of technology and behavioral health partnerships; one board member emphasized early‑childhood investment and local initiatives such as the district's child‑education center. Another member noted the value of board training sessions that re‑center board responsibilities and meeting procedures.
