Aurora East USD 131 reports major summer projects mostly on track; auditorium, windows and HVAC work continuing

Aurora East USD 131 Buildings and Grounds staff reported that most of the district's planned summer construction and maintenance work is complete or close to finished, but said a small set of tasks including gym HVAC work and a few classroom finishes remain.
The update, delivered by Andy Allen of Buildings and Grounds, said crews installed new flooring in the auditorium and in hallways and classrooms and began cleaning and preparing the freshman center so teachers and students can return.
"It looks great," Allen said of the new flooring in the auditorium. He told the committee the district expects to have students back in buildings in about 10 days and that crews are prioritizing first-floor classrooms so teachers can move in and prepare. Allen said two rooms on the first floor and one on the third floor remain slated for in-house flooring work later this year.
Allen also described progress on window replacement and HVAC work. He said window crews are down to punch‑list items at O'Donnell and that window installation at the high school is nearing completion, with only a few door frames remaining. High‑school HVAC work (the district's HVac project) was described as substantially complete at the high school and turned over to Buildings & Grounds for cleaning and final touchups; Allen said the gym will be the last area to be finished. "All new first high school will have air conditioning in the gym now," he said.
Committee member Bob Halverson and others thanked the B&G team and the high‑school crew by name. Halverson and a board speaker publicly thanked Mr. Allen, AJ, Nick and the broader Buildings & Grounds crew for their summer work.
District staff also flagged a modest delay: a small flooring patch remains behind schedule and door deliveries from the vendor have been slower than expected, prompting staff to prioritize main entrances before school opens and to finish remaining door replacements on off days or SIP (staff in‑service/professional) days.
What it means: Staff said the schedule and work sequence are intended to ensure classrooms and first‑floor spaces are ready first, with the gym and other less time‑sensitive areas completed afterward. Buildings & Grounds said it will continue to report progress to the committee.
Ending: Committee members asked staff to return with any updated punch‑list timing; Allen said the team will continue building‑by‑building work through the start of the school year. Retaining‑wall work at an identified site and other miscellaneous summer punch‑list items were reported as complete.
