The Grand Island City Council approved a limited permission for an individual to leave a personal vehicle on town property for a period not to exceed six months, and the council recorded that the town will assume no responsibility for the vehicle’s well‑being.
A councilmember described an email received by council staff requesting a parking arrangement for someone "on an assignment" who needed a place to park. Councilmember 1 said the only concern was the potential for an open‑ended permission, so the council agreed to a six‑month limit and to require follow‑up if more time is needed. "If we were to say, for a time period, no greater than 6 months, we would so" (Councilmember 1), the council recorded.
The council also clarified that the town would not accept liability for vandalism or damage to the vehicle. A motion to grant the request with the six‑month limit and a liability waiver was made, seconded and adopted by voice vote.
Councilmembers instructed staff to use a pre‑canned form for similar future requests and to allow applicants to request extensions if necessary. The council did not adopt a permanent parking policy; the approval was a case‑by‑case, temporary authorization.
