The Rankin County Board of Supervisors authorized the board president to execute documents required by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) so the county can access federal and state funds for the Connector Loop project’s grade‑separation portion.
County staff described the authorization as "cleanup work" required by MDOT to move the project into official status. Staff said the funds for the grade separation are already in MDOT’s control and that no county funds are required at this step. "We are being required by MDOT, to provide specific documentation and agreements that is in connection with your Connector Loop project so that we can access through MDOT the federal funds and the state funds that have already been acquired for of that project," a county staff member said.
Board members voted to authorize the board president to execute whatever documents MDOT requires; members responded "Aye" and the motion carried. Staff emphasized this authorization is administrative: it enables execution of MDOT-required paperwork and does not itself appropriate local funds.
The vote was placed on the record as approval to execute documents needed to proceed with the project’s next administrative steps. Staff said they would return with any further required approvals if MDOT or the federal funders impose additional conditions.
