Congressman Moore visits Davis County, highlights Hill Air Force Base support and tax bill changes

U.S. Rep. Moore visited the Davis County Commission on July 29 and spoke about federal support for Hill Air Force Base and recent tax legislation that his committee handled, including provisions he said make many 2017 tax changes permanent.

Moore emphasized Hill Air Force Base’s role in aircraft sustainment and described efforts to reduce a maintenance backlog for F-16s and to apply lessons to F-35 maintenance. "We were able to streamline the hangar floor ... and move that 25-or-so backlog to one over the course of just a couple years," he said, describing local and federal coordination on military construction funding that he said was recently finalized to expand hangar capacity.

On tax policy, Moore — a member of the House Ways and Means Committee — summarized work to make tax provisions enacted in 2017 permanent so they would not expire and revert to previous levels. He said one example is the child tax credit: "Before 2017 it was a thousand dollars ... Republicans in 2017 moved that to $2,000 ... and we made it permanent," Moore said, adding that under the new legislation the credit moves to $2,200 and will be tied to inflation. He characterized the provisions as targeted and income-capped and said many measures were intended to provide long-term certainty to families and businesses.

Lisa Ross Kelly, Moore’s district director in Ogden, assisted the congressman’s visit and led the pledge. Commission Chair Lorene Kamalu introduced Moore and thanked him and his staff for their work.

Moore invited constituents to contact his office for help with federal services such as passports, Social Security or IRS issues and referenced constituent outreach including a recent town hall and a virtual town hall with broad participation. His remarks were informational; no commission action was taken on the topics he discussed.
