Board reviews instruction-series policy updates; district proposes new data-breach policy and eliminates district-run driver education

Papillion La Vista Community Schools administrators presented proposed updates to the 6,000 series (instruction) policies at the board's July 10 meeting, reporting several modest revisions and a recommendation for a new data-breach policy.
Shireen Siri briefed the board on four notable policy changes in the packet: a small amendment linking parent-involvement language to the district’s student survey policy; a change to accreditation language to reflect the district’s most recent review by MBE (replacing a prior Cognia reference); elimination of a policy that governed district-run driver education (62 03), explained by the district's decision to contract driver education through ESU 3; and a new policy (6901) recommended by the district’s legal counsel that outlines steps the district will follow if a data breach occurs.
Siri said the new data-breach policy will be presented as a board policy first; the implementing procedure will be written by administration and shared after board adoption. “This is a new policy that was recommended by our attorneys in the area of a data breach,” Siri said, noting the district has previously experienced an incident and will capture lessons learned in procedures.
The board discussed the items but took no final vote on the new data-breach policy at the July 10 meeting; the presentation was framed as informational and preparatory for future action and procedure development.
