District reviews preliminary 2023–24 CASP/CASP‑style results; modest gains in some grades, declines in others

Highlights included roughly a 1% increase in English language arts for Dixon High School and a 2% increase in math at the high school level; middle school and elementary grades showed mixed results with some declines (for example a decline in John Knight Middle School sixth‑grade ELA) and some strong gains (Tremont fifth‑grade ELA rose substantially in the comparison shown).
Scott told trustees the district will continue implementation of a new math curriculum and other intervention programs. He described this year as an implementation year for new materials and noted the district has added a literacy expert, interim assessments and instructional supports. Staff framed many results as part of a multi‑year recovery from pandemic impacts and emphasized cohort analysis and additional interim assessments to inform instruction going forward.
Board members asked whether 1–2% changes are meaningful; staff said historical context and cohort trends were the useful comparisons and that the district will continue to roll out curriculum and targeted interventions this year.
