The amendment (Plan 2506002) updates two sections of the ordinance that address lighting for self-storage mini-warehouse facilities and manufactured-home parks. Planning staff said the mercury vapor specification is obsolete and that staff coordinated with a Duke Energy representative to identify 50-watt LED fixtures as the current industry standard.
"This light is no longer relevant," Sarah Arber of Harnett County Development Services told the board, and staff recommended approval. The planning board had unanimously recommended the change 5–0. A public hearing produced no speakers.
A motion to approve the proposed text amendment passed unanimously. Staff and the planning board said the change would apply only to new streetlights and would not alter existing fixtures.
The amendment was described as an update to align the county
's ordinance with current utility standards; no fiscal impact or transition schedule for replacement of existing lights was discussed during the meeting.
