Massive water leak on Reese Court prompts immediate repairs; short shutdown possible

City crews found what staff described as a "massive water leak" at Reese Court and capped multiple emerging service lines before installing a new temporary line, the city administrator reported during the council meeting.
City Administrator Sykes said crews first discovered the leak after land started sloughing and water flowed into a neighbor's yard and driveway. He said Don Benefiedle and Scott Marble (staff/contractors) initially located and capped four lines emerging from a single point and ran one new line.
Sykes reported that a separate, continuing leak was later traced to a private service line and that crews returned to excavate and perform more permanent repairs. "So tomorrow morning, they're gonna be up there with excavators and try to Reese Court may or may not be shut down for up to 4 to 5 hours on water," Sykes said on the record, and that staff were notifying Trailer Court residents house-to-house.
Sykes also said the water tested as chlorinated, indicating the leak was in the city water distribution system rather than from an alternative source. The council did not take formal action on the leak; staff presented the repair plan as an operational response and said affected residents have been personally notified.
The council's administrative report included the water-leak update as part of routine staff business; councilors made no motions on the matter and deferred to public-works crews to complete repairs.
