The commission approved a procurement recommendation to remount two ambulances, selecting SelectTech as the vendor. Staff said the price came to $152,300 per remount and the fiscal officer confirmed the remounts fit within the current fiscal-year budget allocation of approximately $316,003.
Scott (county emergency services staff) told the committee the remount process removes the ambulance box from an older chassis, repairs and refurbishes the box (new flooring, hinges, paint and wiring as needed), and mounts it on a new chassis. The county has used remounts previously as a cost-saving alternative to buying entirely new vehicles; staff said remounts can typically be done once or twice for a given box depending on condition.
During discussion commissioners asked about a recent vehicle fire and whether that damaged unit would need replacement; staff said an adjuster had inspected the vehicle and the county was waiting on the claim. Staff also said two new trucks ordered in 2023 are ready for pickup.
The award was approved with the condition that the mayor's office review the contract before the county signs. Staff indicated delivery timelines and that the county maintains a working relationship with SelectTech and other local remount vendors.
The roll-call vote at committee was recorded as unanimous in favor of the award.
"We've had remounts from them for years," the presenter said, noting the vendor can perform warranty and rapid repairs locally.
Next steps: the purchasing office will circulate contract documents to the mayor's office for review and routing for signature, and staff will notify the mayor if any issues are found during final review.
