City staff told the council that electrical upgrades are required to install a newly approved chairlift at Spirit Mountain because the site’s electrical infrastructure dates to the park’s early years.
Jim (Phil B.) Williams, a city staff member who answered council questions, said the site’s electrical system is original to Spirit Mountain and not up to modern standards. He said the city is taking the opportunity presented by the chairlift installation to install new electrical infrastructure that will also support snowmaking and lighting.
The agenda included a resolution authorizing a contract with PEC Solutions LLC for electrical upgrades for the chairlift installation for an amount not to exceed $199,969. Williams told councilors the electrical work was planned and is necessary for the project to proceed.
Williams also said the anticipated total cost for the new chairlift, inclusive of contracts and predictable change orders, is $4,400,000.
Why it matters: The electrical upgrades are a required part of installing the new chairlift; the work increases project costs and will affect Spirit Mountain’s infrastructure for snowmaking and lighting.
Next steps: The council considered the contract authorization; staff described the upgrades as necessary and anticipated within the overall project budget.
