Haywood County Schools board approves alternative accountability model for Central Haywood High

The Haywood County Schools Board approved an alternative accountability model for Central Haywood High School for the 2025–26 school year at its meeting. The board adopted Option B, which weights student persistence at 20 percent, school achievement at 20 percent and growth at 60 percent, and replaces traditional letter grades with the designations "progressing, maintaining or declining."

Theresa Cook, presenting the proposal, told the board the school would participate in the district's alternative option B for the coming school year. "As in the past several years, they will participate in the alternative option B, which consists of student persistence at 20%, school achievement 20%, and growth at 60%. A change of progressing, maintaining, or declining will be assigned in a place of a school performance letter grade," Cook said.

Board member Rogers moved to approve the alternative accountability model; Kirkpatrick seconded. The motion carried by unanimous voice vote. After the vote, a board member asked whether the model had changed from the prior year; Cook replied it had not.

The decision maintains the district's existing alternative accountability approach for Central Haywood High, continuing the metrics and classification system used in recent years. The board did not set any additional conditions or implementation changes during the meeting.
