TxDOT and City of Abilene report construction progress; CityLink pauses microtransit outreach pending GM hire

Bryce Turrentine, presenting TxDOT’s construction and planned projects, gave updates on ten construction sites and multiple planned projects including FM 89 (Buffalo Gap Road), the US 277/Loop 322 interchange work, median barrier projects and an ITS installation on Loop 322. Turrentine said the Loop 322 ITS project was about 50% complete and waiting on fabricator equipment for message boards and cameras. He also said a new section of FM 1082 and the Fort Phantom Dam bridge work had reached final acceptance and punch‑list stages.
Turrentine described ongoing coordination on a complex signal rebuild at South Fourteenth and Winters Freeway and said the final remaining piece was a custom service pole/cabinet from the fabricator; delivery delays had held reenergizing of the signal. He said crews were coordinating with the city and expected to set the pole and restore full operations when equipment arrives.
City of Abilene staff (Richard) reported on city construction and design projects including South 14th signal improvements, Cypress Street reconstruction (on schedule pending confirmation), Rebecca Lane Phase 1, Polaris Drive conversion from asphalt to concrete, and easement acquisition progress for Maple North phases. Richard said some projects may shift schedules due to related department delays following the cyber attack.
CityLink reported two items: restroom renovations completed in April and the microtransit conversion study (public hearings and stakeholder meetings planned for the fall) on hold because CityLink currently lacks a permanent general manager. CityLink staff said the study will resume after a GM is hired.
