The Abilene MPO Transportation Policy Board approved the final FY 2026–2027 Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP) after staff incorporated TxDOT’s checklist items and confirmation that required activities are satisfied.
MPO staff told the board the final UPWP reflects checklist items returned by TxDOT; TxDOT notified the MPO on July 31 that the UPWP met federal requirements. Staff highlighted administrative updates including an updated TAC membership list and a note that an office copier needs replacement or leasing; that equipment purchase or lease would be handled before the UPWP goes into effect Oct. 1.
Alisa, the MPO executive director, also told the board the MPO has included language in the UPWP noting the potential boundary expansion (including Callahan County) and that staff will amend the UPWP when the governor’s office finalizes any boundary action. The board asked whether the UPWP would be amended once the governor’s decision arrives; staff said yes, the UPWP could be amended then.
Board action: the final UPWP was approved by motion and voice vote.
What’s next: MPO staff will submit the approved UPWP to TxDOT and will process any future amendment to reflect boundary changes if the governor approves expansion.
