Visiting Episcopal bishop urges local partnerships to address homelessness and substance use

Bishop Phyllis of the Episcopal Diocese of Utah visited Price and spoke at a council meeting about the role faith communities and partner organizations can play in addressing homelessness and substance-use disorder.
"We want to be in all those conversations," Bishop Phyllis said, describing visits to local congregations and her interest in learning how churches and community groups can help with local needs. She cited examples from other communities, including an outdoor court in a park that helps residents involved in minor legal matters keep court dates and avoid more disruptive consequences: "They actually hold official court in the park ... so that people don't lose their court."
She encouraged ministerial and civic groups to coordinate resources for people recently released from jail or struggling with addiction. Mayor Terry and other council members thanked her and noted work already underway with local social-service providers and law enforcement.
No formal programs or funding commitments were approved during the visit; Bishop Phyllis said she planned to report back after further meetings with local partners.
