On Aug. 18 the Goldsboro City Council voted 7-0 to remove consent agenda items 6.5 and 6.6, both related to the Crossroads strategies/Friends of Seymour advocacy agreements, from the consent agenda for additional conversation at a future meeting.
Councilman White led the discussion, saying he was concerned the Crossroads firm has emphasized issues tied to F-15 aircraft preservation while not consistently addressing base-community quality-of-life issues raised by the base commander, such as dorms, childcare and spousal licensure. "I think that we owe it to the base commander to expand our aperture to actually get in front of some legislators to talk about the dorms," he said.
Other council members said Crossroads has been effective on aircraft issues and recommended approving the narrow contract now and negotiating broader representation later. After debate the motion to remove the Crossroads items from the consent agenda passed unanimously; staff reported Crossroads and Friends of Seymour had already requested to brief council at the beginning of the next month.
Council later approved the remainder of the consent agenda items (6.1, 6.2, 6.3, 6.4, 6.7, 6.8) by a 7-0 roll call vote.
