Garland sets public hearing dates for proposed 2025 tax rate

The Garland City Council on Aug. 5 approved a motion to schedule two public hearings on the proposed 2025 tax rate and set the date for final adoption.
Deputy Mayor Pro Tem Chris Ott moved to schedule hearings on Aug. 19 and Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. at Garland City Hall, and to hold tax-rate adoption on Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. The motion was seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Luck and passed unanimously.
Councilmember Ott read the motion into the record, which sets the proposed 2025 rate of 68.9746 cents per $100 of assessed valuation for discussion at the hearings. City officials encouraged residents to provide comment at the first public hearing on Aug. 19.
No speakers signed up to speak on the item at the Aug. 5 meeting. Council did not adopt the rate at this meeting; the action scheduled committee hearings and the later meeting at which the council will consider formal adoption.
The hearings will be held at Garland City Hall, 200 North Fifth Street. Documents and proposed rates will be posted in the council agenda packet before the hearings, and the council will accept public comment at the scheduled meetings.
