Council approves multiple fire and rescue contracts, air-medical memorandum and terminates 1-call agreement; Tills Mill contract rejected

After returning from executive session at its August meeting, Chesterfield County Council voted on several public-safety and contractual items.
Council approved termination of the county’s 1-call agreement. The council also approved an air-medical services memorandum of agreement (MOA) with AMR (air medical services) by voice vote.
A series of fire-department contracts were considered and largely approved: Brock Mill, High Point, Ruby Mount Coggan, Bay Springs and Sand Hill fire-department contracts were approved by voice vote. The Tills Mill fire-department contract was rejected in its current form after a motion to reject carried; council recorded one objection during the vote.
Rescue-squad contracts covering Jefferson, Sherrill, Chesterfield, Pageland, Patrick and MacBee were approved collectively; staff and council members described the rescue-squad approvals as having gone smoothly.
Council also approved, on first reading by title only, Project Gray Matter (an economic-development/location-expansion matter referred to during executive session) and may take final action after required procedures.
Council members thanked staff and committee members for their work negotiating the contracts; one member recorded appreciation for committee chairmanship and collective efforts to reach agreements.
All contract votes were taken by voice; individual roll-call tallies were not recorded in the public transcript for most items. The Tills Mill motion to reject passed with the majority and a single recorded objection.
