Mrs. Burton and Mr. Green updated the board on Aug. 11 about plans for the Marshall and Jackson school sites once a local childcare provider’s lease at Marshall expires.
District staff said the childcare center is awaiting state inspection clearance at its new Jackson location before closing out finances and signing a lease there. When the childcare provider leaves Marshall, the district plans to demolish (raise) the Marshall building, preserve portions of green space and maintain access to Stevenson High School, then put demolition and site development out to bid.
Officials said the district discussed signage and agreed to retain Jackson’s historic arch and recognize the building as an LPS facility; temporary signage for the childcare operator is expected. Remodeling at Jackson will not occur until a lease is signed. The district will provide future updates in study sessions and Committee of the Whole meetings as the timeline and bidding process develop.
Board members asked whether the Jackson building’s name would change; staff said the arch likely will remain and that Learning Tree (the prospective childcare operator) would provide its own signage at a lower profile than the arch.
No formal board action was taken at the Aug. 11 meeting; staff said they will return with timelines and bidding details after the childcare center finalizes inspections and lease arrangements.
