District says summer AC fixes largely complete; maintenance process to continue into fall

Bridal Weber and Mr. Green updated the Livonia Public Schools Board Committee of the Whole on Aug. 11 on the district’s air-conditioning repairs and implementation work carried out over the summer.
Weber said district teams worked with Clark Construction, French Architects and contractors and that the district has “a handful of items” remaining to close out before staff returns. Ceiling repairs and occasional lingering classroom issues remain, but Weber said the district believes it “found the solution” after multiple attempts and credited LPS maintenance staff Mr. Roberts and Mr. Lau for troubleshooting.
Weber said most work is expected to be completed before staff returns the week of Aug. 25 but acknowledged that one or two classrooms may still require off-hours attention to avoid impacting instruction. Maintenance calls will continue to be routed through the district’s work-ticket process and into a master spreadsheet that tracks whether issues stem from maintenance or from construction to ensure timely responses.
Board members asked how teachers should report problems; Weber and Mr. Green said teachers should contact building supervisors and use the work-ticket system so problems are recorded and routed to the maintenance and construction teams.
The district did not propose a board vote on the AC work during the Committee of the Whole meeting; officials said they will continue monitoring systems into the fall.
