Resident asks council to consider replacing Foster Park July 4 banners

Kurt Strathman of Le Mars addressed the council Aug. 5 about banners he helps hang at Foster Park for July 4 and ice-cream-day events. Strathman said the custom banners — eight that circle the carousel — have been in use since about 2003 and are showing their age.
Strathman asked the council to consider updating or replacing the banners. Council members thanked him for his volunteer work maintaining the park and suggested staff could look into replacement options, ask where the original banners were purchased (a label on the banners showed “Reliance”) and consider adding the request to a Community Betterment/Budget (CBB) request or other funding process.
No action was taken; councilmembers said the matter would be kept on the city’s radar and staff would follow up with Strathman.
