Pender County commissioners voted to carry over and rebudget a remaining purchase order of $122,679.85 to continue a feasibility study for wastewater service in Rocky Point.
County staff said the study—previously authorized and funded in the 2025 budget—was started by the contracted engineering firm and requires the additional appropriation to finish the work. Staff identified three site areas under review: a corporate property on Highway 133 (referred to in staff remarks as the Corbett property), parcels behind Post Place near Fort Smith subdivision, and an area near the regional pump station and associated warehouses. Staff said the Corbett property on Highway 133 currently looks like the most feasible site and could support a roughly half‑million‑gallon wastewater treatment plant to serve commercial areas and existing subdivisions.
Officials said study results are expected in October, at which point the engineering firm will return to provide guidance on next steps. The board approved the carryover and rebudget during the meeting.
