Board authorizes right-of-way permits for AT&T fiber on parts of Amelia Island

The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners on July 28 approved a request from Blue Streak LLC, acting on behalf of AT&T, to install fiber-optic infrastructure in county rights-of-way on Amelia Island, including three designated canopy roads (Gerbing Road, Suarez Bluff Road and Manousi Road). The board authorized staff to issue the necessary right-of-way permits.
Planning Department staff said the work will be performed using underground boring to avoid the root zones of canopy trees and that no canopy trees will be significantly impacted or removed. Because canopy roads require board approval for work in the right-of-way, staff recommended approval and the board voted to authorize permit issuance (motion by Commissioner Martin; second by Commissioner Farmer; vote 5-0).
Staff advised the board that applications on Amelia Island covered 10 roads in total and that the three canopy roads named require special board approval. The permit authorization directs staff to proceed with the right-of-way permitting process and to ensure tree root-zone protection during installation.
No public speakers registered opposition during the legislative public hearing on the item.
