Brentwood Library reports summer reading participation, staffing changes and upcoming facility upgrades

Commissioners received multiple updates about the Brentwood Library, including summer reading participation totals, recent staffing moves and plans for facility and audiovisual upgrades.
Commissioner Donahue reported the library’s summer reading program registrations and minutes: 547 children registered and 286,708 minutes read; 40 teens registered with about 35,000 minutes read; and 136 adults registered with 155,719 minutes read. Donahue said the Friends of the Brentwood Library raised $24,780 at a July book sale.
On staffing, Donahue announced Amy Pierce has been hired as administrative services coordinator to assist the library director. Two staff members were promoted: Pamela Johnson is now circulation systems administrator and Robin Walden is the technical services administrator.
Donahue said the library is working with the city’s improvement program to obtain quotes and samples for new carpeting in the children’s area, and with IT to refresh audiovisual equipment; a new projector for meeting rooms is expected in mid-September. A design firm (Barge) is presenting preliminary concepts to the space committee for a planned reconfiguration of the teen and quiet spaces.
Library volunteers, the Friends group and community donors were thanked for funding and support of the “Friends Gather area,” reupholstery and other improvements.
