Brentwood announces hire of new finance director designate, Tanya Travis, to start Aug. 4

City Manager Jason Gage announced that the City of Brentwood has hired Tanya Travis as finance director designate; she is scheduled to start on Aug. 4.
Gage said Travis holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and an MBA from Middle Tennessee State University, has more than 23 years of public finance experience, and is a certified municipal finance officer. Gage said she has served Spring Hill, Fayetteville and Shelbyville, and recently worked as a finance and accounting consultant with the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service’s Municipal Technical Advisory Service (MTAS).
The city plans a significant overlap between Travis and current Finance Director Karen Harper, who plans to retire in early 2026, to provide a transition period for staff, operations and process review. “We’ve purposely built in a significant amount of overlap, which we think will make the transition much easier, much more seamless,” Gage said. The overlap will allow time to review roles, initiatives and technologies while both staff are available.
Gage also reminded the public that the first day of school is approaching and urged motorists to exercise caution in school zones.
