The Berrien County Board of Commissioners formally adopted two honorary resolutions on July 24, 2025 recognizing county finance director Douglas D. James and community member Dawn D'Lynn Yarbrough Zopi.
A resolution honoring Douglas D. James recited that James was born Aug. 20, 1958, worked for Whirlpool Corporation and served as Berrien County's Director of Financial Services for 15 years and nine months. The resolution noted his role in guiding the county's financial position and recorded that he will retire on July 25, 2025. The board read the resolution into the record and extended well-wishes for his retirement.
The board also adopted a resolution honoring the late Dawn D'Lynn Yarbrough Zopi. The resolution recounted Yarbrough Zopi's Benton Harbor roots, her degree in communications from Eastern Michigan University, her modeling and broadcasting career, and her return to Benton Harbor to participate in community rejuvenation. The resolution states she passed away on Nov. 30, 2024; the board adopted the resolution by acclamation and invited family members to the meeting.
Both resolutions were presented in the meeting record and formally recognized by the board; the Dawn Yarbrough Zopi resolution was accepted by voice vote (acclamation).
