Sierra Vista PD starts aggressive-driving detail, launches school-zone 'Bowser' safety campaign

Corporal Scott Borgstadt of the Sierra Vista Police Department said the department has started an aggressive-driving enforcement detail focused on high-traffic intersections and locations with frequent collisions, and that the effort will expand next week to emphasize school-zone safety as classes resume.
"We're gonna be focusing on this aggressive driving detail on the main intersections and in the school zones," Borgstadt said. He warned drivers will not receive warnings for passing a stopped school bus with flashing lights and an extended stop sign.
Borgstadt described a community outreach campaign using the department's mascot, Bowser the tortoise, to remind motorists to slow down near schools. Bowser will appear at local schools, starting with Village Meadow School on the first day of classes, to help draw motorists' attention to reduced speeds and student safety.
The department also intends to post reminders in school zones and maintain visible patrols to discourage red-light running, speeding and other aggressive driving behaviors that endanger students and other road users.
