SULLIVAN COUNTY — During the legislature’s public comment period, an attendee read from a recently released New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) survey alleging that an incident at an adult-care center on March 21 involved a certified nursing assistant physically restraining a resident and claims that facility leadership had not internally investigated or trained staff adequately.
The commenter said the NYSDOH survey found the director of nursing was cited for conducting an improper investigation and that staff had not been trained to care for patients with psychiatric disorders other than dementia. The commenter also stated the survey alleged InfiniteCare shortened orientation training for new staff and that the director of nursing appeared unqualified for the role, language the commenter said was contained in the publicly released survey.
The chair interrupted the speaker to say the meeting was not the time to demean staff and directed that personal remarks about county employees or agency staff were not permitted. Another attendee responded that the commenter had been quoting a public NYSDOH document and that the information in the survey was publicly available.
No county official announced any enforcement action or county investigation during the comment period; the commenter identified the NYSDOH survey as the source of the allegations.
