Scotland County health board hears update on consolidation; job posting and new advisory structure planned

The Scotland County Board of Health on Monday received an update on a county-led consolidation effort and was told a job posting and a new advisory-board structure are planned, board members said.
Commissioner O'Neil briefed the board on the consolidation work, noting training available from the State Board of Health on combined boards. "Their next training is about consolidated boards," Commissioner O'Neil said, "so I thought it might be great for everybody."
A health department staff member told the board the county is preparing a recruitment posting that "will be posted and advertised for a minimum of 30 days," and staff are drafting a new board structure and advisory-board process to consolidate functions previously handled by separate entities, including aspects tied to the Department of Social Services. "The other thing we're working on is a new board structure figuring out how the advisory board process will work, consolidating both the DSS," the staff member said.
Board members asked for a continued place on future agendas for status updates. The chair said the county will report back at the board's regular August and October meetings so members can monitor progress and provide input.
The board did not take formal action on consolidation at the special meeting; the session was limited to an informational update and scheduling follow-up reports to the board.
