Grass Valley staff told the council on July 22 they have secured a vendor booth at the Nevada County Fair (tentatively Aug. 6–10) to concentrate public education about fire safety and Measure B programs.
Dwayne Strauser, community risk reduction manager, said the booth will be located near Gate 5 in the fire-safety area and that the city plans to partner with multiple agencies — including Nevada City (which shares fire services), the police and fire departments, United Way, the FireSafe Coalition and community nonprofits — to staff shifts. Strauser said staff will display an example of new fuels-mitigation equipment and run short educational videos and literature at the booth.
Strauser asked council members to consider participating in a “coffee with the mayor” session at the fair, and staff said they will publish a small schedule for media outlets so fairgoers can plan to attend specific topics at specific times. The presentation emphasized outreach, coordination across agencies and using the fair as a focused public-education opportunity for Measure B and fire-safety messaging; no council action was required or taken on this informational item.
Ending — Outreach next steps Staff said they will finalize shifts with partner organizations, produce videos and handouts for the booth, and coordinate a public schedule for media and community notices.
