Staff said the council on June 23 had authorized appropriating $11,756,656, but after reconciling recent school-committee adjustments the appropriate figure for the city appropriation is $10,610,573. Staff described the change as administrative only and said it had no impact on the school department’s total operating budget or on the city’s tax mill rate.
Finance staff explained the adjustment was driven primarily by a change in employee benefits line items and other line-item revisions including special education, transportation, co‑curricular activities and technology. When asked whether the change reflected a single line or multiple areas, staff replied the employee benefits account was the flexible element and accounted for the full change.
Committee members moved to recommend approval of the correcting resolve to the full council and seconded the motion.
