The infrastructure committee unanimously referred a temporary lease agreement between the City of Bangor, the Bangor Water District and cellular carriers Verizon and T‑Mobile to the full city council for approval.
Jeff Davis, city engineer, described the lease as temporary and tied to a 2022 purchase-and-sale agreement for the old water tower parcel. Davis said the new tower (on 53 Street) will temporarily host carrier equipment while the older tower at 97 Venture Way remains in place until the land swap in the 2022 agreement can be completed.
Davis said the city still owns the new tank site until the old tower is taken down and the land swap finalized. The lease formalizes use of the new tower by both carriers during the interim period; Davis said the lease and the 2022 purchase-and-sale agreement were attached to the committee packet for reference.
Committee members motioned and seconded the referral; Davis and representatives from the Bangor Water District were present to answer questions. The committee sent the lease package to full council for final action.
