Springfield School District 186 officials reported Oct. 20 that the SCOPE after‑school program's regular‑year revenues totaled about $424,796.75 against expenditures of about $387,565.94, leaving a preliminary surplus of just over $37,000, district staff said.
Officials added that, including summer reimbursements and fee adjustments, the program showed a difference of about $171,000 in preliminary accounting, though staff cautioned that some reimbursements from external funders are still pending and figures are preliminary.
The district reported 897 students currently receiving SCOPE services this year — 132 more than at the same point last year — and a district‑wide waiting list of 181 students. Administrators said they are hiring assistant leads, associates and substitutes to reduce the waiting list, and that recent hires include three staff and three substitutes.
Staff described operational improvements, including posting daily SCOPE schedules at some sites to help parents plan pickup times and activities. Board members praised the program and noted plans to convene an advisory committee next month with parents and community members to review scope operations and finances.
