The Waunakee Community School District Board of Education voted to adopt a new administrative performance evaluation system for the superintendent and other administrators, but the board decided to delay implementation until the next evaluation cycle.
Board members said the new platform will create an ongoing record of evaluations and align superintendent review with the district’s other administrative assessments. “I personally like the fact that there will be an ongoing record for current and future boards to have access to, in the performance category of the superintendent,” one board member said during the discussion.
Administrators described the platform as having a learning curve and noted that coaching and onboarding support may be advisable if new board members join before the next evaluation cycle. The board discussed timing, the annual fee for coaching, and use of the platform’s coaching services. Several members recommended trialing the tool and providing training to new members rather than immediately switching mid‑cycle.
After a motion to adopt the tool but postpone its use until the next evaluation cycle, the board approved the motion by voice vote. The board directed administration to arrange training and to consider coordination with other providers (CESA 6 was mentioned as a related support provider) so new board members can be brought up to speed before the tool is used for evaluations.
The board emphasized progressive rollout and the option for the board to provide training to new members internally if they felt confident using the platform.
