The Board unanimously adopted a resolution authorizing Nottoway County to participate in a proposed direct settlement of opioid-related claims against members of the Sackler family. County staff said designated opioid settlement funds would be placed in a separate account and used for approved programs addressing opioid addiction and recovery.
Logan Presley (county staff) clarified that prior opioid-related funds had been tracked in dedicated accounting lines and that the county must document receipt and authorized spending annually. Supervisors said they intend to use future funds in partnership with regional providers and the Piedmont Regional Jail rehabilitation programs, where appropriate.
The resolution directs county staff to follow state guidance on settlement participation and to track revenue and expenditures in a separate opioid fund subject to audit and public reporting. The motion to adopt the resolution passed by voice vote.
