Kings County establishes General Plan Advisory Committee; board approves revised bylaws

The Kings County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 5 approved a revised resolution establishing a General Plan Advisory Committee to advise updates to the county’s general plan and development code.
Chuck Kenny of the Community Development Agency told the board the GPAC is intended to gather public input and provide recommendations to the planning commission and the board. ‘‘The GPAC will consist of at least 13 individuals, but not more than 21 members appointed by your board. Members carry full voting rights on GPAC decisions and recommendations. The GPAC will serve in an advisory capacity only to the planning commission and the board,’’ Kenny said.
The county expects approximately seven GPAC meetings spanning 2025–2026; bylaws and applications will be made available following board adoption. Members will receive no compensation, and the committee will focus on input from residents, business owners and community leaders representing the unincorporated county.
Board members asked about timeline and geographic representation; Kenny said no specific district quotas were required because the county does not know where applicants will come from, and staff did not want to create barriers that would slow formation of the committee. The board approved the revised resolution and bylaws by roll call vote.
