Board staff proposes October or November retreat dates for facilities and safety planning; preference expressed for Saturdays

District staff asked the Maury County Board of Education to agree on a date for a facilities and safety retreat this fall to review facility needs and safety upgrades and to coordinate county funds for facilities work.

Policy staff said the most popular date from a board availability poll was Friday, Oct. 17, but some members objected to Friday dates. Staff said if the board could not come to consensus she would set a date (she mentioned Nov. 1 or Oct. 25 as alternatives) and expected to proceed with arrangements and staff support.

Board members said Saturdays were generally preferable to avoid weekday work conflicts and urged staff to set retreat dates and put them on the calendar so members can plan. One board member suggested staff set several future weekend dates in advance so members can reserve them. Staff said the retreat would include a safety-upgrades segment and invited input on location and timing. No formal vote was taken; staff planned to finalize dates and notify the board.

The board briefly reviewed an FYI section and then adjourned the work session.
