CHARLTON, Sept. 2 — The Town of Charlton Zoning Board of Appeals on Tuesday approved a variance permitting a 20-by-40-foot shed at 318 Southwood Road to be sited within the required setbacks.
Applicant Robert Pachelski told the board the proposed shed would sit in the back corner of the property and would be used for storage. Board members said the lot’s slope and existing layout limit other suitable locations and described the proposed placement as the most logical spot. One member noted concerns that a later owner could use the building for different storage purposes, but the board said it could not restrict the permitted use beyond the code definition for accessory storage.
The motion approved 10 feet of side-yard relief and 15 feet of rear-yard relief, per the submitted plan. The board again reminded the applicant of the 20-day appeal period and recording obligations once the appeal period concludes.
Board members described the hardship as the lot’s topography and lack of other conforming locations; no additional conditions were recorded in the hearing beyond the standard administrative steps.
