After an executive session, the City of Saratoga Springs council announced it will add multiple discussion-and-vote items to its agenda related to outside legal work and billing and reported two pending civil matters.
Mayor Stafford told the council that the meeting’s executive session resulted in plans to add an agenda item to authorize a contract with Hinman Straub for constitutional issues not to exceed $25,000, and an agenda item to authorize Goldberg & Kremer to appeal a hearing officer's decision in a Section 75 matter not to exceed $20,000. The mayor also said the council would consider a discussion-and-vote to authorize payment of a Goldberg & Kremer invoice in the amount of $11,592.70; that bill had been approved for payment at the previous meeting but was reduced pending an appeal outcome.
“We discussed basically five things,” Mayor Stafford said when reopening the public meeting. He listed the contracts and the invoice and then reported on litigation developments.
The council was told the Jamaica Miles case against the city and others was settled by the city’s insurance company; Mayor Stafford said no council action is required at this time. The case caption was described during the meeting as Jamaica Miles v. City et al. The council also discussed the Sanders matter — identified in the meeting as Miranda Sanders v. City of Saratoga Springs, Casino Holdings, Edward Moore, Eileen Cotter and Saratoga Springs police officer Christopher Camaro, Civil Action No. 122-CV-1154 — and indicated no immediate council action is necessary.
A notice of claim filed Friday by Jason Golub alleging civil-rights violations in federal court was also identified during the executive-session discussion; staff said insurers or attorneys may handle further assessment and the council did not take public action on that notice.
Council members did not vote on the contracts or invoice during the open meeting; the mayor’s announcement indicates those items will be added to the council agenda for a future public discussion and vote.
