A North Bend parent appealed to the school board during public comment to overturn an interdistrict transfer denial for her son, saying the district cited attendance and behavior when it denied his request on July 30.
Ashley Stutter told the board her son, Corey Stoddard, has attended North Bend schools since kindergarten and is entering his sophomore year. She said the district s written denial listed attendance and behavior as reasons. Stutter said Corey had missed "minimal days" in 2024-25, that absences were excused for illness, and that most of his problems during the prior year were tardies to first period.
Stutter said several teachers had offered classroom-based supports if the transfer were allowed, including having Corey serve as a teacher s aide in first period to help monitor attendance and to provide check-ins before practice. She said teachers and coaches volunteered to advocate in person or write letters to the school board on his behalf. Stutter also said Corey received one day of in-school suspension as a freshman and that his final report card contained no negative behavior comments.
She asked the board to consider the proposed supports and to reverse the interdistrict transfer denial so Corey could continue at North Bend High School.
No formal board action on the transfer was taken during the meeting; Stutter delivered her comments during the public comment portion and made letters available to district staff.
