Board approves walking path from new elementary parking lot to Red Hollow Drive, contingent on land agreements

The Orderville Town Board approved a motion to build a paved walking path from the new elementary school parking lot to Red Hollow Drive, contingent on securing property rights or deeds from adjacent landowners. The board approved the Spencer Asphalt bid for the path and Frosty’s (cleaning/fence vendor) work for an approximate total of $38,540; the motion included a contingency that the town finalize property agreements with landowners Doug and Leticia before construction proceeds.

Staff said the parking lot and sidewalk at the new elementary school are in place and that the proposed path would be a 4-to-5-foot blacktop walking path with striping to distinguish it from the travel lane. Board members described discussions with the adjacent landowners, who have been “very amenable” to selling or deeding the necessary footage or granting permanent access for the path. The project also includes some excavation and retaining-wall work in spots where the road and grade require stabilization; the Spencer Asphalt bid includes those items.

The board authorized the project contingent on concluding land agreements and required surveys/legal descriptions. The vote carried 4-0.

Board members said the walking path will provide a safer off-road route for students and will be tied to ongoing safe‑routes‑to‑school coordination with the school district and property owners.
