Council approves reclamation bond agreement with Ashlock for phased pit operations

The Grantsville City Council approved Resolution 2025‑58 on Aug. 6, 2025, authorizing a reclamation bond agreement with Ashlock for a pit operation.
Chance Anderson, speaking for Ashlock, described the reclamation bond as a financial guarantee that the site will be reclaimed after operations cease. He said the company will cut slopes to required grades, reseed and revegetate disturbed areas to limit erosion and remove hazardous drop‑offs. Anderson said the code requires a $1,000 per‑acre bond and that Ashlock will operate in phases, disturbing no more than 50 acres at a time; bond coverage will be adjusted as additional phases commence.
When asked about the total increase, Anderson said, “I think, 170,” while also explaining the firm is phasing in 50‑acre increments. The council had no substantive objections. A motion to approve the reclamation bond agreement carried by voice vote; the transcript records “Aye” and “Motion carries.”
