Manatee board hears high school AAA update as officials weigh build options and rezoning amid rapid growth

Manatee County School District staff and local builders outlined growth projections, capacity pressures and multiple options for a proposed new high school—referred to in district materials as the AAA high school—during a July 29 workshop.

Deputy Superintendent Joe Rinaldi, Executive Planner Mike Penley and Executive Director of Secondary Education Sharon Scarborough led the briefing, with homebuilder Pat ("Mister") Neal providing a private-sector perspective on demand and builders' plans. Rinaldi and Penley laid out the district's capacity calculations, student-generation assumptions and rezoning scenarios as the board weighed whether to proceed with a new high school now or pursue interim capacity measures.
