Staff and the attendance boundary committee presented three options July 29 for the new Alta Vista K–8 boundary (moving into the Scenic Terrace site) and recommended a preferred map that preserves most of the existing elementary boundary while carving a small section around Boone Middle School.
District staff explained seat counts (approximately 943 elementary seats and 471 middle-school seats at the K–8 site) and projected utilization changes for nearby schools including Boone, Denison and Lake Marion Creek. The committee’s preferred option moves about 433 students into the new K–8, and an additional small Denison carve‑out (169 students) was proposed to give Boone relief while minimizing travel impact.
Board members asked about transportation and the effect on feeder patterns; staff said the recommendation accounted for bus routing and noted community feedback from families of rising sixth graders had been strongly positive (most asked to stay at the K–8). Staff asked the board to allow the proposal to be taken to the public for comment and said they would host targeted outreach and return compiled feedback.
Ending: The ABC-recommended boundary will be posted for public comment and staff will collect input and return to the board with a summary and any recommended adjustments.
