The Borough of Fairlawn Mayor and Council voted unanimously July 29 to adopt two salary ordinances updating pay schedules for part‑time police employees and for department heads.
The ordinances were adopted on second and final reading after the council opened and closed public comment periods for each measure without any members of the public speaking. Roll call votes recorded all members present in favor.
The first ordinance, listed in the meeting as "Ordinance 2,750 one‑twenty 25," amends the borough's salary ordinance to set pay for certain part‑time police employees. The second, introduced as "Ordinance 2 thousand 7 150 two‑twenty 25," updates the salary schedule for department heads and amends Ordinance 02/2023 as previously amended.
Council procedure followed standard practice: the council opened the public-comment period for each ordinance, received no comments, closed the hearings and then moved to adoption and publication as required by law. The clerk read the ordinance titles into the record and the council adopted both ordinances by roll call. Council member votes were recorded as: Council member Salinas — Yes; Council member Krauss — Yes; Deputy Mayor Rottenstryk — Yes; Deputy Mayor Reinec — Yes; and Mayor Cottone — Yes.
No amendments or substantive debate were recorded on either ordinance during the public hearing. The meeting minutes will include the ordinances' final texts and the clerk will arrange publication and filing as required.
The ordinances take effect according to the legal timeframe set forth in the borough's adoption and publication procedures.
A separate consent agenda at the same meeting handled grant acceptances and other routine resolutions (see related article).
