Orange County Schools policy committee advances multiple health, privacy and safety policies to full board

At a meeting of the Orange County Schools Policy Committee, members voted by consensus to forward most proposed policy updates on student health, privacy and school safety to the full Orange County Schools board for first reading; two model policies were recommended not to move forward and one regulation was returned to staff for additional legal review. The committee reviewed a large group of updates drawn from school-staff edits and model language from the school boards association.

The action package included updates to a service-animal policy and a related regulation, communicable-disease language for students, concussion-return guidance and an attached “concussion return” letter (which the committee recommended be removed from the public policy manual and retained as an internal procedure). The committee also advanced a confidentiality/personal-identifying-information policy with edits to add a cross-reference and to clarify that identifying items are included “but are not limited to” the listed examples.
