Board approves several facilities projects: Del Oro parking lot exemption, tennis-court resurfacing, PA upgrades, skylights and generator work

The Placer Union High School District Board approved a series of facilities measures Tuesday that will move multiple campus capital projects into design and procurement.
Del Oro High School: Board members found the proposed Del Oro High School Boynton parking lot rehabilitation project exempt under CEQA and authorized filing a notice of exemption. District staff said the scope is to pave and reconfigure the existing lot and to meet path-of-travel requirements by modifying an existing access road; fiber already runs to the scoreboard, which simplified infrastructure work. The board approved the item unanimously.
Tennis courts: Trustees approved a contract recommendation to resurface the Del Oro tennis courts. The district selected a contractor after soliciting bids; Loomis Town Council has committed a $50,000 donation to the project. District and community speakers emphasized the courts’ heavy use by students and community members and a need to complete work before regional events.
PA and intercom systems: The board approved new integrated PA/intercom/bell systems for Del Oro and Forest Hill High Schools. Staff said the installations follow a successful rollout at Placer High and will include LED strobes that can be used for safety signaling as well as bells. Contracts will be funded from Fund 40 (capital outlay).
Skylights and roofing fixes: Forest Hill High School will have 19 skylights replaced after repeated leaks and several cracked units; staff explained the failures result from aged gaskets and weather damage. A bonded roofing contractor will replace the skylights and associated flashing.
Backup generator: Trustees approved installation of a backup generator and automatic transfer switch at Forest Hill to maintain power during planned shutdowns and emergencies. Staff said Colfax already operates with a generator and that Forest Hill is used as a community staging site during disasters; the approved contract is within previously allocated capital-outlay funds and includes contingency and permitting costs.
Most votes were unanimous. Trustees and staff discussed project sequencing, funding sources (developer fees, capital outlay funds), accessibility/path-of-travel solutions, and timelines; staff said they would return to the board with bid results and more detailed schedules as the projects move toward procurement and construction.
A board member thanked community volunteers and the Loomis Town Council for financial support on the tennis project. The board directed staff to continue outreach to neighboring property owners and to report milestones at future meetings.
