Chilton County Commission votes: hires, invoices, appointments and park permits approved

At its Aug. 12 meeting the commission approved a consent agenda of hires and routine items, opened nominations for the Chilton Water Authority, approved temporary transit director hire, job postings, invoices, travel authorizations, and a park use permit among other items; several votes were unanimous and some measures recorded an abstention.
The Chilton County Commission approved a series of routine and administrative items at its Aug. 12 meeting, ranging from personnel actions to invoice approvals and park permits.
Consent agenda and personnel: The commission approved the consent agenda, which included minutes, claims, sheriff's department hires (Josh Glass as full-time deputy), reclassification and correction officer hires, a resolution to retire a K-9, and routine transit department personnel actions including resignation of Jessica Pemberton and an advertisement and temporary hire for a transit director. During the meeting commissioners voted to hire Keonte DeJarnett as temporary interim transit director; that motion passed unanimously.
Boards and job postings: Commissioners opened nominations for the Chilton Water Authority; Julius Kelly and Regina Respice were nominated for the two seats and will be voted on at a later meeting. The commission approved updates to the animal control shelter job description, authorized posting for an animal control assistant director position, and approved other personnel resolutions without recorded opposition.
Invoices, contracts and routine approvals: The commission approved invoices for Thompson Tractor and All Occasions Designs; recorded votes show at least one abstention on Thompson Tractor invoices. Commissioners approved opening a Walmart online account and establishing money market sweep accounts for the general fund and gasoline fund at First Bank of Alabama, with signatories identified for chairman, vice chairman and administrator. The commission also approved the 25-26 Montgomery County juvenile detention facility agreement and various road-department testing and contract items pending county attorney approval.
Travel and events: Commissioners authorized attendance by Roger Perkins, Daryl (D.) Bone and the park director at the Alabama Recreational Trails Leadership Workshop and approved use of Pinnacle Park for a community fundraiser called the "Redneck Olympics" (county not affiliated; park-use authorization only).
Procedural: The commission suspended rules for select immediate items and later entered an executive session to consult the county attorney on pending litigation; the attorney prepared an affidavit to be attached to the minutes and the commission said no action would be taken from the executive session.
Most measures on the consent and routine agenda passed unanimously; where recorded, some budget and purchase items passed with six votes in favor and one abstention.
