The Trails, Arts, Parks and Streetscapes (TAPS) advisory committee presented several capital requests at the July 28 work session, most notably a proposal to install electrical service in the Beth Lodge / parking-lot area to support pedestrian-bridge safety lighting, events and expanded holiday-decor lighting at Town Hall.
Why it matters: adding electricity at the bridge/parking area would support safety lighting, permit evening events without generator reliance and enable future installations such as decorative bridge lighting; the board also considered professional holiday lighting for town hall and associated budget choices.
What the committee proposed TAPS reported it had obtained three quotes for bringing power to the parking-lot area. Option 1, the committee's preferred option, is the least expensive and includes installing a new utility pole and limited trenching (approximate lowest-quote price $11,275 for Option 1 and up to $30,125 for the more extensive buried-line Option 2 as listed in the packet). The committee asked commissioners to consider a resolution authorizing the work and to consider including separate bridge-lighting installation that would cost roughly an additional $10,000.
Board reaction and direction Commissioners supported installing electric service and directed staff to include the work in an August resolution. Several commissioners asked the committee to provide the bridge-lighting proposal in writing so staff and commissioners could review the combined cost before a formal vote. The board also favored moving forward with professional town-hall holiday lighting, noting it has returned favorable feedback in prior years.
Funding and next steps Staff indicated committee funding was included in the budget line items reserved for advisory-committee projects and noted modest costs could be covered by the committee's allocated funds; larger costs could draw on reserves. TAPS will forward the bridge-lighting design and quotes to staff for inclusion in the draft resolution for the August voting meeting.
Ending Commissioners asked staff to prepare a draft resolution for August that includes Option 1 for electric service and to incorporate the bridge-lighting quote as an amendment if the board prefers to proceed in a single package.
