City staff provided a set of operational updates at the Aug. 25 council meeting, reporting changes in police staffing, technology hiring, community volunteer work, and a new fire station.
A police department spokesperson told the council the department increased officer presence at the fair to improve safety and that six officers will complete field training in the coming week and become independently assigned to patrol. The spokesperson said the department currently has five community service officers working and two in training in the CSO Academy.
Planning and technology staff reported that interviews for two RTCC technician positions took place last week and the department expects to hire two candidates soon to reach full staffing. Staff also said the city joined the YMCA of Pueblo’s Corporate Cup Togetherhood volunteer project; about 50 volunteers participated in a revitalization project in East Side neighborhoods.
The presenter announced that Fire Station 11 opened on Aug. 22 and said the station provides updated living conditions, equipment and training space that will expand capacity across the department’s other stations. The community clean‑up teams reported surpassing 600 tons of trash removed year to date — the presenter converted that figure to about 1,200,000 pounds — and thanked volunteers.
Staff closed the update by noting the city will have a parade float in the upcoming Sunday parade, listed as entry No. 22, and reminded councilors of related events. No formal council action was requested on these operational items.
